“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent.”
Colossians 3:15
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
The Great Depression, this is a time in history that I can only read about. I was not born in that time, but I can learn to appreciate what happened and how the way of life was then. Many times I have sat and listened to my dad talk about a meal called Scrumptial; his father would make this for them on Saturday nights with the leftovers from the week. This unique pot of leftovers was the highlight of his week.
Recently, I was listening to an older lady talking about living in the Depression era, and she recalled one of her fondest memories. She remembered that on Sundays they would go to her aunt’s house, but her aunt could not afford heat. So they would grab the kitchen chairs and huddle around the stove while lunch was cooking, and they would get warm by the fire. She went on to say that they would sit facing the stove to get the front of them warm, and then have to turn around so their backs would get warm. As she talked about this, she was giggling and repeating, “Oh the good old days.”
Fast forward to 2020, and what do we have? Central air, heat in our homes, cars to drive, and so many other advantages. We have plenty of food, clothes, and almost everything we could want or need at our fingertips. Yet, I never hear, “These are the great present days.” What has happened to us? Why do we not seem like a happy people? You would think with all these “things” that make our lives more convenient and stress free, that we would be overjoyed.
Many times I have said to my husband that I almost wish we could go back to a time like that. A time when we as a people appreciated what we had. Working in a guest service position, I see the side of people that is ungrateful and demanding. I see this at church when we want what we want and demand our rights. What happened to being thankful, grateful, and appreciative? I personally am challenged to look at what I have and learn to be content in these things and to appreciate them even more.
Life is definitely a journey and an adventure if you know anything about me. Every day brings new and exciting things and also some overwhelming moments. For the past two weeks my husband has had two major falls from having seizures which led him to be in the chiropractor’s office 2 to 3 times a week plus having to have physical therapy and wear a back brace.
Because of this we decided to take a quick weekend away that we called a Saturday vacation. While on this vacation he had a seizure, his scooter that he uses to get around in large places died in the middle of the museum. This led to us having to push it out of the museum, to loading it in the car manually, and causing me to be completely overwhelmed and having to have a good cry.
If you asked me is it all worth it I’d say 100%. If you asked me what I marry this man again I would tell you absolutely 100%. He is the man of my dreams and if he comes with an extra package called epilepsy …I wouldn’t change a thing. Now having said all that… I have stated over and over it many times that I have found “my new normal and it’s a moving target”. so what does all of this mean, for me there is no normal, normal is only for a moment and that changes again. And I am OK with that. I’ve had to learn to be OK with that… Otherwise I would not have survived life and all that has been part of it.
This is made me in the long run realize how precious life is, it is giving me the desire to encourage other women and their walk and their journey, it is also encouraged me to invest in peoples lives whenever I can.
But having said all that… I have a new journey in life and an adventure and that is my YouTube channel. Come and join me and come and visit me and see what this crazy life entails. I hope you will find encouragement along the way, maybe some new ideas that you’ve never thought of before, maybe a few laughs, but most of all I hope that you leave feeling a little bit better about yourself, a little bit more encouraged than when you first started to visit with me.
Over thirty years ago I learned how to can tomatoes. I did that for a few years but never really ventured out from there. Recently, after watching so many YouTubers who are now getting into canning, I decided that it was time to try this again.
I reached out on Facebook to find someone who would be willing to teach me and get me going. I was blessed with a friend, and the first thing she started me with was Cranberry Chutney. I had never had chutney and really didn’t think I would even like it or use it. To my surprise I am in love with it.
We have used this for roast pork and turkey, but the best is with cream cheese and crackers. This recipe is simple and a keeper for me.
wash cranberries, sterilize jars, cook down cranberry and applesfill your jars, take the air bubbles out, and wipe jars clean for before adding the lidput the jars under the bath for 20 minutes, take out and place on a towel.an empty pot is when you know it was yummy and my favorite part is listening to the sound of the jars popping.
At this point I have made over thirty jars and have given most of them away as Christmas presents. Homemade is always a great way to go for gifts, and my friends and family were so pleased. I will start canning jams and jellies soon, so stay tuned for some more yummy recipes.
25 jars done and ready to give away as giftsoh so good and oh so yummy
Do you can? What have you made? Share some of your favorite recipes with me and let me know what works best for you as a beginner canner.

16 servings
Ingredients:
1 – 1 ¼ cups of sugar
½ cup water
1 package (12 ounces) of fresh or frozen cranberries
2 large tart apples, peeled and finely chopped
1 medium onion or I like to use 1 teaspoon of dried onion instead
½ cup of raisins and I prefer to use homemade raisins
½ brown sugar
½ cider vinegar or white vinegar will also work well
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon (I like to add a pinch more)
½ teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves
1 teaspoon of fresh ginger (I used powder)
If you do not have allspice and cloves….I used ½ teaspoon of apple pie spice
Directions:
In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring sugar and water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 3 minutes. Carefully stir in the cranberries, apples, onion, raisins, born sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, salt, all spice, ginger and cloves.
Return to a boil and reduce heat. Simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes until desired thickness and stir occasionally.
Can be served hot or cold and added to Roast Turkey, Roast Pork, use as a side dish and also add to sandwiches or cream cheese on crackers ( a favorite of mine)
Well we are here and sitting at a museum with about 200+ Autistic kids and their families. WOW!!!!! This is an adventure to be with so many family and now friends that we have made.
It amazes me while I sit and watch the differences in each individual who has autism or on the spectrum! My son for example has changed so much that next to most of these kids he almost seems average. There are families with kids having meltdowns of all ages. Kids wearing head phones to lighten the sounds and other kids walking in circles or having stemming issues. But all in all to watch all these levels get along and come along side of each other with NO JUDGEMENT!!!!!
YES… I said no JUDGEMENT!!! Just the other day I had someone tell me point blank to “put him on a diet”. My son is far from needing a diet….his only thing is …is that he is tall. Then only a few days later I have someone tell him right to his face “did your head fall in a bucket of paint”. Yes he tinted the top of his hair red… and I ask you where is the crime in that?
What a JOY to be part of this awesome support group here in New Jersey!! We have been part of this group for about 5 years now. Some of the events have a charge and some are FREE like this one tonight.
Tonight our kids can run free through the hands on museum designed with sensory play stations of all kinds. From a restaurant to a climbing wall, a TV station to a doctors office, a pet shop to a nature center.
Our sons favorite is the basketball and dinosaur room.
If you are not part of a support group you need to be!!!
Let me start by saying that I just love all my planners and I love planning. Recently I have found myself in a “planner overload”. I would not pick up my planner for days or even a couple of weeks. I became so “planned out” and almost felt done with my planner.
Then a few weeks into this….I missed sitting and writing in it. I missed confirming my schedule or just making some notes in it. I began to realize that my life had become so crazy busy and so overwhelming in general that I hadn’t even noticed how bad it had gotten. Then I realized it wasn’t my planner but just time in general that had become too busy and crazy and that I needed to slow things down and regroup. In doing this, I found that I needed to simplify my life in any area that I could.
Throughout the year I will switch from a ringbound, to an A5 Filofax, then to a mini or a Travelers Notebook …. and I enjoy them all. My planner is not only my “dailies”, but my calendar and also my journal, notebook, and A-Z files for just about everything that I do. Sticky notes and stickers have become my best friends as well and all the bells and whistles that you can add to your planner. But when life is busy this stuff is busy too to look at….or at least in my mind.
So what is a “Planner Girl” to do…..I decided to go simple for a while and use a Dollar Tree basic planner and planner inserts that I came across. They are basic and just perfect for where I am in life. I found that the simplicity of it keeps my mind clear of business in my planner and a basic and simple calendar helped too.
Someday I am sure that I will find myself back using my “chunky” planners with all the perks and goodies …. but for now simple is better for me.
How about you….do you change-up your planners? What makes you decide to change things around?
I think the fall season is my favorite time of the year! Pumpkin pie, fall spiced candles and of course the movie “You’ve Got Mail”.
I love to hit the Dollar Tree… Target Dollar Spot, thrift stores and any other local stores for some new fall decor and goodies for the house.
The house is usually filled with faux pumpkins, lots of fall scented spice candles… And white twinkling lights throughout the house. Candles are lit every evening, mood lights are turned on… and we sit and enjoy some pumpkin spice coffee while watching a good movie. I have quilts and throws over the chairs to make it a cozy home for us to enjoy during this season.
Here is some of my new goodies for this year that I will be using around the house as well as some fun Fall day trips, and some adventures of the season. I love watching some of my YouTube friends who I like to call my friends… and to see what they post on their channel, for some new Fall items that they get for their homes as well. It gives me some great ideas of what stores are selling each year and where they shop….before I head out to look for my goodies.
What do you use to decorate your homes? Do you have traditions that you do when it comes to decorating for the seasons? Send me some comments and pictures below so that I can get some ideas from you as well.

A cold night…you are just coming home from work or a long day… and you want a nice warm bowl of soup? That’s what I like to do on a Fall or Winter evening. But normally I find that I don’t have the time to whip something up on the day that I want it. So instead I make large batches of soup 4 – 6 times a year and freeze them for when I need a quick hot meal with not a lot of fuss.
Onion Soup….so simple to make and so simple to enjoy!
Here is my recipe that I make…I hope you enjoy this!
(BTW this recipe is very forgiving….so a little more of this and a little less of that, based on what you have in your pantry is fine)
Ingredients:
2 bag of onions (3 – 5 lbs)
2 containers of Beef Broth (homemade is better if you have some stashed in your freezer)
Salt and pepper to taste
½ stick of butter
2 cloves of garlic
2 tables spoons of parsley or basil (your choice)
My secret ingredient is Marmite – one heaping teaspoon
1 cup water
2 bay leaves
Directions:
Melt butter and garlic in a sauce pan
Once melted, add onions (slice onions very thin)
Add spices to onions
Sauté onions until a gold brown
Pour onion mixture into crock pot and add broth and bay leaves for 2 hours on high or on stove top on low for 2 hours.
Take out the Bay Leaves
Grab a bowl, pour in some soup, get some bread or crackers and enjoy!
How great is it to have a “girls day” out? I so enjoy getting together with friends and enjoying a cup of tea. I was privileged to have a double duty day the other day with two “Teas” in one day.
The first one was at my church for our kick off “Ladies Fellowship”. It was designed to gather the ladies for a fun morning filled with some yummy food, tea, a devo, a few games and some fun costumes to wear.
The second one was just for me….yup just for me! My daughter-in-law took me out for a belated Mother’s Day present to a “high tea” at a tea room. What a treat….not only to have a day for me but to spend the entire afternoon with my daughter-in-law and one of my best friends! We drank one cup of tea after another, we enjoyed tea sandwiches, tea cakes and treats and of course scones. I just loved the fact that when we first walked in….we were able to smell all the teas in little cups so we could choose just the right one for us to make a pot of tea from. The twinkling lights, the decor, the cute little tables …..the entire place was so charming! I can’t wait to go back for a Christmas High Tea and then to do some Christmas shopping with the girls this year.
How about you….do you ever host a tea at your church? What ideas can you share with me? I would love to see pictures of your teas as well. Send me some comments and pics below.
