WOW…..on those days when life’s storms come, and then chaos seems to follow, do you just feel like you want simplicity to come?  We had one of those days this week, and I found myself craving for a simple way of life, and to slow things down so that I could think about what the next step would be.

Finding Balance – When too Many Plates are Spinning

Are your plates spinning in life, and are you overwhelmed where you are today?  Life, for me, seems to keep getting more and more busy, crazy, and nuts. Some days my plate is so full….that I don’t even know where to start.  The thoughts start coming. Where do I start? Work? Home? Kids? Husband? The sound in my head just keeps going in circles. I needed to STOP, and listen for a moment, and pray for wisdom.  The verse that says, “a wise woman builds her home”, became my reality. I have learned over time to take four simple steps in life to keep some balance. Balance and simplicity are what you will find today in this message as you listen.  I hope you enjoy this special event with me!

Welcome to my home and life…

Life is definitely a journey and an adventure if you know anything about me. Every day brings new and exciting things and also some overwhelming moments. For the past two weeks my husband has had two major falls from having seizures which led him to be in the chiropractor’s office 2 to 3 times a week plus having to have physical therapy and wear a back brace.

Because of this we decided to take a quick weekend away that we called a Saturday vacation. While on this vacation he had a seizure, his scooter that he uses to get around in large places died in the middle of the museum. This led to us having to push it out of the museum, to loading it in the car manually, and causing me to be completely overwhelmed and having to have a good cry.

If you asked me is it all worth it I’d say 100%. If you asked me what I marry this man again I would tell you absolutely 100%. He is the man of my dreams and if he comes with an extra package called epilepsy …I wouldn’t change a thing. Now having said all that… I have stated over and over it many times that I have found “my new normal and it’s a moving target”. so what does all of this mean, for me there is no normal, normal is only for a moment and that changes again. And I am OK with that. I’ve had to learn to be OK with that… Otherwise I would not have survived life and all that has been part of it.

This is made me in the long run realize how precious life is, it is giving me the desire to encourage other women and their walk and their journey, it is also encouraged me to invest in peoples lives whenever I can.

But having said all that… I have a new journey in life and an adventure and that is my YouTube channel. Come and join me and come and visit me and see what this crazy life entails. I hope you will find encouragement along the way, maybe some new ideas that you’ve never thought of before, maybe a few laughs, but most of all I hope that you leave feeling a little bit better about yourself, a little bit more encouraged than when you first started to visit with me.

The Journey that Saved the World

I am about to teach this coming Friday to a group of young people at church.  The ages range from three to fourteen. Trying to incorporate enough information to keep them all interested in the devotion can be hard at times. We, as a church, have committed to reach out to our neighborhood kids and share each week with them that Jesus loves them.

This weekend the topic is “The Journey that Saved the World.”  We have gone with an overall theme this year of the “Olympics.” Teaching the kids about preparation, endurance, and finishing the race.  So, let me take you on the journey that I have prepared for the kids.

  • Preparation:
  1. In order for Joseph and Mary to hear the call of the Lord, they needed to be prepared and walking close with Him.
  2. Then when the angel came and told them what was to happen, they needed to prepare for the journey.
  • Endurance:
  1. Because they were prepared, they would be able to endure the journey.
  2. They knew that God called them to do this task, so they needed to endure no matter how hard the journey would become.
  • Finishing the Journey:
  1. When they got to Bethlehem the journey was not done. They needed to find lodging, a safe place to deliver baby Jesus, and prepare the area for the baby to come.
  2. Once the baby was born, they could look back and see that they had prepared for a work to be done. They could see that they endured the journey they had to go on to get to the place where He needed them to be, and then they needed to deliver the baby to finish the task.
  • What we can learn from this:
  1. We need to be ready and prepared for when He calls us to do a job.
  2. We need to know that we will need to endure the journey, and that it might not be easy all the time.
  3. We need to know that when the journey is over, we can look back with joy, and we completed what was asked of us.

 

We also can look at the fact that when we prepare and answer the call, endure the journey, and finish it, that it is not only us who are affected but many around us. A task given to us by the Lord always has layers to it. Our lives are not our own, and we affect others all the time.

Mary and Joseph answering the call brought us the Savior (His divine plan). This Savior would ultimately be the One who would save the world. I am sure that Mary and Joseph had no idea the impact they would have on us today, thousands of years later.

Having a Tear in the Corner of Your Eye

I remember sitting in church as a kid and listening to Pastor Jack Fedalen preach.  I was only about twelve, but I can remember it like it was yesterday. His preaching was always dynamic, but more importantly, he had a way of making you remember what his message was all about.

That day as I sat under his teaching, he reminded those of us who are believers that we should always have a tear in the corner of our eye.  Pastor Fedalen went on to say once you lose this, you have lost one of the most important things in life.

Today I was chatting with my son about several really cool God things that have happened over the past week.  It is almost overwhelming how many cool things have been happening. As I shared these things with him I watched his face soften, and the tear in the corner of my eye was real.

The Bible talks about how we need to be a witness to others and love them as we do ourselves. We need to feel the pain of others. The Bible also says that the angels rejoice when one soul is reached for Christ.  What I was sharing with my son was that my husband and I have been sharing with three couples about our relationship with the Lord. Then this past Wednesday I spoke to a group of over three hundred women at a mini-conference. I was able to share my story and what the Lord means to me.  One phone call that I received today was about my message on Wednesday. She asked if she could use some of what I shared. She has family that needs to know about Him and she felt that what I shared about eternity at the end of my message was just what they needed to hear.

Again, that tear was in the corner of my eye. Being older, I can relate to what he was trying to tell us during that message years ago.  When we hear of the Lord’s work, His people, and when someone receives a relationship with the Lord, it is time to shout out loud and have a tear. The day that that tear is no longer there and we do not feel excited for these things is the day we have lost sight of what God is doing.

So my question to you today is, are you watching what God is doing all around you?  Don’t meditate on the negative in this world. Regain your hope and the tear in the corner of your eye by keeping your eyes open for His work that is being done.

Galatians 6:2

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Luke 15:10

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

“Menu” Math for special Needs……what is out there for basic teaching material?r

We are a homeschooled family and love to learn new ways of teaching just about anything.  Having someone with special needs and teaching them has been interesting and also challenging at times!!!! One of the uniquenesses that our son has (or as we like to call them) is Autism and ADHD.  Now he also has a few other uniqueness….and roll them all together and you never quite know what you will have when you try to teach him.

Trying to teach the simplest things can be a big hurdle and we need to look around and always find new and different ways to approach things.

Our one goal has been as he gets closer to adult age is basic life skills.  How can he function the best he can in the “real” world as he get older? When he wants to be with his friends….how can he maintain as “normal” of a life as he can?  What can we do to assist him in learning how to feel like he can fit in?

We needed to make a list of areas in life where we needed to help him fit in the best he could.  One area we thought of would be when he goes to a restaurant.  I think we take things for granted and just maybe assume that reading and understanding a menu is the “norm”.  Well in fact I found out that it is not.  So in my search around I actually found math workbooks called “menu math” and we just love them!!!

Real life math…..with real life restaurant menus, it doesn’t get better than this.  We choose places that we frequent to make this as real and normal as we could.  Chick-Fil-A, MacDonald’s etc.…. here a few samples of what we choose below.  Stay tuned as to how we apply these in our homeschooling in my next blog.

Is it worth it?  Investing in a life…..

I know that many of you come to my site for articles on Epilepsy, Autism, motherhood, crafts etc…. These topics are near and dear to my heart and life and I love sharing about them. But there is also another side to me… so if you are not religious and or enjoy that type of topic this article might not be for you. but if you do… come and join me in this great discussion! Either way let me also thank you for coming and visiting my blog site today!

How many times have you tried to help someone out and then almost regretted it? How many times have you felt that your good deed hit a brick wall or a dead-end?  If you are like me you wonder if anything you have done will ever or have ever amounted to anything.

I know myself there are days I feel empty after working alongside of someone I have invested my time, money, talent into.  You sit back and wonder if they heard you, appreciated what you did and will they ever get the whole picture of what you are trying to do.

Recently the Lord has put on my heart and my husband’s heart to work with some young people as an outreach.  This is under the umbrella of our church but reaches many teens who are in our local community and are “unchurched” and do not know anything about God.  In this group we share a “one verse” devotion, serve them dinner and then teach them a life skill.  Our “win” or ultimate goal is to mentor each girl that comes to the club, with love, words of wisdom, and a Godly example.  Now that the girls club has been started and is a success….we have now started a boys club too.  For the girls….we state we are “reaching one heart at a time” and for the boys….”we are creating a leader one day at a time”.

So how does this all tie together with my title…’Is it worth it?…..the answer is YES!!!  Yes it costs us money, time, talent, resources, and some days a bottle of Advil, but it is worth it.

The Bible clearly talks about investing in a life.  First of all the Lord invested in your life and mine at the cross….he took Lynn Wilson’s name to the cross and personally died for me so that I could have eternal life.  If that alone is not enough to make you realize how important one life is then there is a problem!

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Bible also shares with us that the older should teach the younger. Being a “Titus 2” woman is something most of us have heard growing up.  YES it makes a difference! I am a product of that…many women took the time to mentor and teach me in my younger years and I am grateful for this love and guidance that was given to me. Now it’s my turn to share with someone!

Titus 2:3-5

Older women similarly are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor addicted to much wine, teaching what is right and good, so that they may encourage the young women to tenderly love their husbands and their children,  to be sensible, pure, makers of a home [where God is honored, good-natured, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

So many older woman who I chat with tell me that they USED to be a Sunday school teacher, or they USED to serve in the church. They tell me that now that they are older they leave it up to the young people.  My question to them is….when did serving the Lord have an expiration date?  When did the Lord give you your date of retirement?

Matthew 20:28

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

As I serve in an area that I personally would say is not my best gift…..I aim to serve with a willing heart.  I do feel that even though I started this mentoring group….I will pass the leadership over in the next few years.  My task that the Lord gave me might only be to be a vessel and to start this group and to get the ball rolling.  For me not to respond would go against everything that the Lord showed us in His own walk here on the earth.

In the midst of the girls I work with could there be another Mary or Ester that the Lord needs to prepare for the future?  Could I be mentoring someone who could save a nation? Who could change another life?

How about you…..are you worth it?  YES….and I am sure that somewhere in your life there was someone who took the time to invest in your life.  First of all go and tell them thank you!  Then respond to the Lord’s leading and ask the Lord to show you which life you need to invest  in!

#CHAT…mentoring one Teens Heart at a Time!

What is #CHAT🌼

This is the question that I have been asked a lot about this week.  #CHAT🌼It is something new that has been started in the past few months and I am seeing so many people excited about it.  Whether it is because they are a regular attendee, a donor or someone who has a heart for the youth of this country.

A quick summary is… It is a mentoring program for girls from ages 12 to 16.

When the girls arrive they are provided with dinner, we teach them a life skill such as sewing, cooking….crafts and more. There are friendships made, lots of activities such as ping-pong and other stations available for them to keep busy and a way for them to get to know each other.

Each month we have what we call the #CHAT🌼 Boutique for the girls.  Generous people have donated items such as make up, essentials, jewelry, tote bags and much more. We set up a large table with all these goodies displayed for them to look through and to take home with them. They shop and smile and laugh and giggle. They seem to enjoy taking home some goodies for themselves and it is all 100% FREE for them.

This new ministry was designed by me and is headed up by the #CHAT🌼 leadership team at Grace Gospel. We created a safe environment where the girls can come meet new friends, find a mentor… share their hearts…trials and tribulations and or something exciting that happened this week to them. This is a faith-based program and it is a place where they can just “chat”, ask for prayer, shed some tears, and have tons of laughter!
