Simple Scones with a Twist

You can’t go wrong with a simple basic scone recipe.  I found this recipe on another YouTubers site (her site is Rhoda Stone).  I took her basic recipe and transformed it into my own recipe.  So below are the basic recipe that you could use and then also the other two that I created from the basic scone recipe.  Comment below if you try this recipe and tell me what you think and what you created.

Basic Simple Scones:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • Mix your dry ingredients together
  • Next cut in the butter
  • Add 1 beaten egg and milk to mixture
  • Mix all together
  • Next add to a lightly floured counter and roll into a ball
  • Cut into 8-10 triangle pieces
  • Place on a cookie sheet
  • Beat 1 more egg
  • Lightly brush the top of the scone with an egg wash
  • Bake at 350 for 12 minutes

How to change this up with a twist?

Almond Scones:

  • Do the same above but add 1 teaspoon almond extract to the wet ingredients
  • After giving he egg wash sprinkle with sugar and add slivers of almonds to the top
  • Bake as normal

Orange Marmalade Scones:

  • Do the same as the above basic scone recipe and add 1 teaspoon of orange extract to the wet ingredients.
  • Add 1/4 cup of orange marmalade to the wet ingredients
  • Also add 1/2 extra cup of flour to the dry ingredients
  • Bake as normal

Enjoy!!!
